🍽What You’ll Need to Make a Mixed Berry Smoothie
For the meal prep for future smoothies, you'll need a very large mixing bowl, the biggest one ya have! A large spoon for mixing. You'll also need about 16 ziplock bags (sandwich or quart size). A 1 cup measuring cup. And a helper if you can persuade someone, perhaps by telling them there could be a yummy mixed berry smoothie in their future!
For the actual berry smoothie you will need 2 cups of the berry mix we're about to make, one 6 ounce can of pineapple juice, and a high speed blender such as our favorite Nutri Bullet. Each smoothie serves one human, or two if the humans are very small haha!
🍓Ingredients & Helpful Substitutions
- Frozen Mixed Berries: I use a blend of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries because the combo gives the best sweet-tart balance.
- Substitutions: Swap any berry you’re not a fan of, or replace with frozen mango, frozen pineapple, or even a frozen or fresh banana for extra creaminess.
- Pineapple Juice: This is the secret to getting that bright, tropical sweetness without adding sugar.
- Substitutions: Orange juice works in a pinch, or use apple juice for a milder flavor. For a creamier smoothie a splash of plant milk or coconut milk.
- Extra Healthy: Toss in a handful of spinach or kale for added nutrition.
- Added Protein: Add a tablespoon of your favorite nut butter.
🥄Instructions (Smoothie Meal Prep)

For meal pepping these smoothies as a quick grab and blend treat you'll need two 16 ounce bags of frozen blackberries and one 48 ounce bag of frozen sliced strawberries.

You'll also need one 48 ounce bag of frozen blueberries and two 10 or 12 ounce bags of frozen raspberries (whichever your store carries).

Pour all the berries into a very large mixing bowl and stir to mix them up.

4.) You'll want to work rather quickly at this point so the fruit doesn't begin to thaw. Having a helper makes this fun! I find they will often work for a smoothie reward.

5.) Measure out 2 cups of the berry mixture into each bag and seal tightly, removing as much air as possible. You should end up with about 16 two cup portions.

6.) Pop them into the freezer for quick smoothie making all summer long!

Get ready to grab your pineapple juice because it's yummy berry smoothie making time!!!
🥤Instructions (Smoothie making)
Take one of the bags of berries you prepped containing 2 cups of frozen mixed berries and toss the fruit into a high speed blender along with one 6 ounce can of pineapple juice and blend until smooth. If your blender has any difficulty simply add an ounce or two of additional pineapple or orange juice or even water, just enough to help get it moving.
Pre-measuring your ingredients ensures quick and easy delicious smoothies all summer long!
Don't feel like meal prepping and just want to make one delicious berry smoothie right now instead? I've got you, those instructions are in the recipe card below!

Pour into a fancy glass, garnish with fresh fruit, and enjoy!
⏲️Time Saving Tip
By pre-measuring the berries into bags ahead of time it makes it so easy for anyone in the family to just grab a bag out of the freezer, toss in a can of pineapple juice, and blend up their very own berry smoothie. Meanwhile, Mom gets to go peacefully about her day...that is until she realizes no one washed out the blender when they were done (sigh).
🧊Storage & Meal Prep
Freezing Prepped Ingredients: Follow my instructions for pre-measuring your frozen berries into ziplock bags to have quick smoothies on hand at all times. Store the begs in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you’re ready, just grab a bag, add pineapple juice, and blend away!
Freezing Leftovers: Got some smoothie left over? Pour it into ice cube trays and freeze for later. When you're craving a smoothie again, just toss a few cubes in the blender with more juice and blend until smooth!
❓FAQ's
You can customize this recipe by adding bananas, mangoes, or even spinach for an extra boost of nutrients or a tablespoon of nut butter for protein.
Yes, it's great in a bowl! Get creative with toppings, granola, fresh fruit, maybe a drizzle of nut butter!
A high-powered blender (Vitamix, Ninja, or Blendtec) makes blending the fully frozen packs effortless. I use this Nutribullet and it does the job wonderfully and without breaking the bank. If your blender is a smaller or less powerful, let the frozen fruit thaw on the counter for 5–10 minutes before blending.

👩🏻🍳Creating the shot: A behind the scenes look

Just me, casually rearranging my entire space to photograph one smoothie… It’s fine. Everything’s fine.

This is where I pretend I didn’t take 47 test shots before deciding the spoon needed to rotate 3 millimeters. Sadly, I do this.

My camera: Please stop touching things.😐
Me: Just ONE more tiny adjustment…
What really happened
The initial shoot was a disaster haha! I went through the entire recipe/photoshoot process only to realize the pictures did not turn out very nicely. I had set up a different scene that I thought (in my head) would look beautiful.
It did not look beautiful. The original flowers I went out and picked for the scene closed up right after I got the smoothie made. The house was really warm so the smoothie melted quickly and went over the glass onto the table. It was a mess. But, such is life, as my Grandma used to say! So the next day I did it all over again. Hope you enjoy the final photo, it came out way better! The smoothies were an incredibly delicious treat after all that hard work!

I made this on a hot summer day. it was so refreshing and sitting on the deck enjoying a view of the lake. This was easy to make and impressive enough to serve guests. I put mine in a Cobalt blue martini glass.
